Beard care from a barber in Stockholm

Beard care guide – maintain your beard between visits

A well-shaped beard only holds if you take care of it at home. Our barbers on Östermalm share the routine we use ourselves – and the STMNT products we recommend in the salon.

Short answer

How do you take care of a beard at home?

Rinse the beard with lukewarm water every morning, massage beard oil from the skin outward and comb it through. Wash with beard shampoo 2–3 times a week, blow dry on cool air while brushing downward, and add beard balm for beards over 2–3 cm.

A simple daily routine

Your beard needs two things every day: cleansing and moisture. In the morning, rinse with lukewarm water, work a small amount of beard oil from the skin outward, and comb through with a wooden beard comb. The oil softens the hair, prevents itching and gives a natural shine without feeling greasy.

Use beard shampoo two to three times a week – not regular hair shampoo, which is too drying. After washing: pat dry, apply oil while the beard is slightly damp, and blow dry on cool-to-warm air while brushing downward. That's how you get the beard to settle in the shape your barber created.

For longer beards, add beard balm after the oil – the balm gives extra hold and keeps the volume in place all day. For shorter stubble, oil or a light beard butter is enough. STMNT's range – which we use in the salon – is formulated to work together, so you can combine products without weighing the beard down.

Styling: use a small amount of matte paste or fiber pomade on the moustache to shape it up or to the side. Warm the product between your fingers first, so it spreads evenly without clumps. Everything we use and sell in the salon is on our STMNT page.

Beard care routine step by step

Five minutes in the morning is enough to keep the beard soft, well-shaped and itch-free.

  1. 1

    Rinse and cleanse

Rinse the beard with lukewarm water. Use beard shampoo 2–3 times a week – never regular hair shampoo, which dries out both skin and hair.

  2. 2

    Apply beard oil

Use 3–6 drops of beard oil depending on length. Massage from the skin outward while the beard is slightly damp.

  3. 3

    Comb it through

Comb with a wooden beard comb so the oil spreads evenly and stray hairs are guided into place.

  4. 4

    Blow dry into shape

Blow dry on cool-to-warm air while brushing downward. This settles the beard into the shape your barber created.

  5. 5

    Lock the shape

For beards over 2–3 cm, finish with a small amount of beard balm for hold. Use matte paste or fiber pomade on the moustache.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I use beard oil?

+

Every day, preferably in the morning after showering. A small amount (3–6 drops depending on beard length) is enough. Massage from the skin outward – this prevents itch and gives a natural shine.

What's the difference between beard oil and beard balm?

+

Oil cares for skin and hair; balm gives light hold and shape. For shorter beards, oil is enough. For beards over 2–3 cm we recommend oil in the morning and balm when you want to hold a specific shape all day.

Which products do you use in the salon?

+

We use and sell STMNT Grooming Goods – a professional range formulated to work together. You'll find our favourites (beard oil, fiber pomade, matte paste) on our STMNT page.

How often should I book a beard trim?

+

To maintain the shape we recommend every 3–4 weeks. Between visits you keep it up at home with the right products and brushing. We offer beard trims as a standalone service or combined with a haircut.

My beard itches – what should I do?

+

Itch usually comes from dry skin under the beard. Daily oil from the skin outward solves it within a week for most people. Also switch to beard shampoo instead of regular shampoo. If the itch persists, book a visit so we can look at the skin.

Can you help me choose products?

+

Absolutely. Book a visit and we'll go through your beard together and recommend the right routine and products for your beard type and length. You can buy the STMNT range directly in the salon after the consultation.
